About kristi

I'm a woman on a mission. A mission to make something other than weeds grow in my backyard.

So shady

Before…

And after…

An annual blog post

So, maybe I’m not  the best blogger. Maybe I just don’t have much to say. Maybe I’m better at posting a random picture on Instagram than I am at stringing together a few sentences on a regular basis.

the last one

As I’ve mentioned before, we have peonies planted in two spots. The ones along the driveway always bloom first. Then in the back yard, we have one single peony and one tree peony. Unfortunately the tree peony didn’t survive the harsh winter, wild little boy, and over zealous lawn mowing husband. At least the single one looks good.

dirt + seeds + water = science fun

Neither of my children enjoy helping me do yard work. Maybe because I only pay 5 cents for each stick they pick up. Anyway, we’ve graduates from Kiwi Crates to Tinker Crates and the current one includes all the supplies you need to make your own irrigation system. The best part was watching the soil pod expand when you add water. Nerd alert!

so that’s what you look like

For the first time in about 10 years, the  Baptisia Australius bloomed.  The pictures were taken about a week apart.

is that poison ivy

the alliums have bloomed. Every fall I forget about my plan to plant like 20 more. But seriously is that poison ivy?

oh how many hostas i have

About four years ago, I bought a few hostas. Then I bought a few more.

They all seem to be doing really well but I totally didn’t do a good job of paying attention to how big or small they were going to get. I moved one last year as it was completely crowded and it has survived in its new home. However this year when one was planted a little too close to its neighbor, I decided to break it up and try planting each one as a separate plant next to my new mini oak leaf hydrangea. We’ll see how this goes.

I also put one over near the one I moved last year, next to the Lenten Rose:

I forgot to take a before picture but here is where it used to live–just to the right of this one:

I also bought a few more hostas because they were on sale 3 for $12 and I’m a sucker.

If these do well, I’m going to try to thin out the ones in the first photo and then rescue this poor baby from the ivy:

let’s play a game

weed or purchased plant that I forgot about?

Could these be Blazing Star or maybe New England Aster?

Is this rose mallow and weeds?

Weed?

Penstemon digitalis?

This is Blazing Star, right?
